TORONTO — Renée Binder, MD, a professor of psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco and incoming president of the American Psychiatric Association, discusses the growing problem of imprisoned individuals with severe mental illness.One of the various initiatives Binder will support and participate in during her upcoming term as president of the APA is the Stepping Up Initiative, which aims to decrease the number of individuals with severe mental illness in prisons.
